[About Takashi Nemoto]
\nBorn in 1958. Debuts as a manga artist in alternative-comic magazine \u201cGARO\u201d in 1981. As well as publishing Manga in several magazines from the 80s,\u00a0 his artistic career varies from essay, novel, film to painting. Much of his work\u00a0is often contextualized in the \u201cEro-guro\u201d culture, the artistic genre in Japanese subculture which depicts grotesque, horror imagery with eroticism and nonsense. He\u2019s been focusing on fine arts in recent decades, the most notable being \u201cJu-Kai,\u201da painting as big as Picasso\u2019s Guernica. For ongoing works, he has been releasing music as a member of \u5e7b\u306e\u540d\u76e4\u89e3\u653e\u540c\u76df\uff08Illusion of Great Records Liberation League: group who reissue out of print records), teaching at “the night school of film\u201d at UPLINK Shibuya for 20 years, teaching \u201cUnique Manga: avant-garde path\u201d course at \u00a0the Art school Bigakko. With his unique and various artistic works throughout 40 years, he pioneered his own profession, what’s called as \u201cTokushu Manga-ka” (Unique Manga Artist), who penetrates the underground manga taste on different mediums as an artist.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The exhibition\u2019s title is\u201dAi-no-aru-Unique-de-Yutaka-na-Tokyo\u201d(which literally translates to Tokyo, Unique and Plentiful with Love) derived from the sample phrase of a phototypesetting catalogue by \u201cShaken.\u201d
\nAlthough the phrase would not make particular sense anymore, it refers to Nemoto\u2019s perspective of gazing on what is old fashioned and dropped out of trend. He is quoted for saying: \u201ctreasure is found in waste and nonsense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not only strolling down memory lane of his artistic works, the exhibition will be showing brand new work and an installation.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the 40th anniversary, KOMIYAMA TOKYO will be publishing an exhibition catalogue (Edition 150) that comes with an exclusive 7inch\uff08Flexi Disc) record with the song \u201cOdaira\u2019s White Awakening.\u201d<\/p>\n
