This exhibition celebrates the release of the newly revised edition of\u00a0Kitajima\u2019s photobook, \u201cNEW YORK.\u201d<\/p>\n To commemorate the launch, the exhibition will feature both carefully selected vintage and new prints from the series, along with related publications.<\/p>\n The new edition presents a different perspective compared to the original 1982 release, including monochrome photographs that won Kitajima the prestigious Kimura Ihei Award, as well as color photographs taken in the late 1980s. That same year, he co-founded the image shop CAMP in Shinjuku with photographer Daido Moriyama. In the series “Photo Express: Tokyo” (1979), he photographed Tokyo’s nightlife and published the instant prints from a gallery converted into a darkroom in a monthly book. In 1983, he received the 8th Kimura Ihei Award for his work in the photobook\u00a0New York<\/i>\u00a0(1982), which features images of the city’s streets and clubs. In 1991, he published\u00a0A.D. 1991<\/i>, featuring photographs taken across Europe, America, and Asia, and transitioned to the\u00a0PORTRAITS<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0UNTITLED RECORDS<\/i>\u00a0series in the 2000s. In addition to the Kimura Ihei Award, he has received the Japan Photo Association Newcomer Award (1981), the 32nd Ina Nobuo Prize (2007), and the 41st Domon Ken Prize (2022). He currently works from the photographers’ gallery in Tokyo.<\/div>\n
