Luigi Serafini, an Italian architect, devoted several years in the late 1970s to creating the unprecedented and extraordinary Codex Seraphinianus—a work written entirely in an invented language.
Since its first publication in 1981, its overwhelming originality has transcended the boundaries of art, design, and philosophy, continuing to inspire and astonish creators around the world. Within its pages, fantastical flora and fauna, anatomical diagrams, and bizarre customs from an otherworldly realm appear to defy the known laws of biology and physics.
